Q. Do I need to have riding experience to join the team?
A. No! We are associated with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), which allows individuals of all levels of experience to compete. We’ve had members who have never ridden a horse in addition to those who have competed nationally.
Q. Do I need to compete to be on the team?
A. No! While many members are motivated to compete, it is not a requirement. We welcome anyone who has a passion for riding.
Q. Do I need to have a horse to join the team?
A. No! While some members have their own horse, you must use the Western and English trainers horses during our lessons. This is to prepare you for the catch-riding style of the IHSA competitions.
Q. How many times a week does the team go out to barn?
A. Every team member takes 1 or 2 lessons weekly as scheduled with the trainer.
Q. How does the team get out to the barn?
A. It is the riders responsibility to get to the lesson on time. Sometimes riders will have lessons at the same time as other riders, and they will carpool.
Q. How does the team get out to the show?
A. Team members with cars opt to be team drivers and help transport the rest of the team to shows.
Q. How much does it cost to be a member?
A. Lessons cost $45 (Western) or $75 (English) per lesson and we usually have ~15 lessons per semester. In addition we have club dues which vary, but are around $50 to $75 annually, and given to IHSA. (Prices are always subject to change)
